Pablo Neruda & The Star

-- I've been doing a little research on the Spanish Civil War; not much you understand, just sufficient to give some context to a fictious meeting. Perhaps the most famous of all war photographs, by Robert Capa, was taken during that conflict, and Picasso himself was moved to paint that peculiar horror.
Pablo Neruda wrote on the conflict, but I was surprised to find--with a big push from a dear friend and colleague--that he also wrote the most tender love poems. Try this. Beautiful.

-- Sometimes one finds gems in the most unexpected places... In today's 'Star' newspaper, the following;

'The great personal battles are always fought alone. Not in front of an audience of well-meaning advisors, friends or family. They are fought in the deafening darkness of starless nights, when even the moon is covered by stormy weather. So be constantly prepared to face your isolation with resolute independence.'

Katrina

The analysis, the outrage, the disgust, the recriminations will continue for months, years even. Just to add to the background noise, a few comments from this neck of the woods;

Last Wednesday, from BlueBoy; "If it (Katrina) has to happen, then it's best that it happens in the States--at least they've got the ability to handle it. Not like Bangladesh or somewhere."
You would have thought so, right?

Today, from BlueBuddy Paul; "This is not the America we know....and love."

Amen.
